seismic shift

A seismic shift is occurring and we're getting the exciting privilege of being alive during a massive time of change.

The times they are a changin'.

I see it now.

Here we go.

When the #MeToo movement started bringing powerful men down in our culture, that was one of the big indicators.

What's happening right now in America with these ICE raids, that is an indicator as well, of a "battle outside raging".

There are peaceful and compassionate ways to do things and "raids" is not one of them.

Where we're going with all of this, the good and the bad, the just and the unjust, is a tug of war between new ideas and old.

The more new ideas of equality and consideration we introduce, the harder the old guard tugs in the opposite direction.

Do I know what I'm talking about?

I remember when they told the Dixie Chicks' lead singer to stop talking about politics and "shut up and sing".

If the songs you're singing are words you wrote, or words that have profound meaning, then even when you sing you aren't "shutting up".

I see the way I can be of help doing exactly what I love to do.

I see that taking this role seriously, and being serious and thoughtful in my song choices, is part of it right now.

I am bringing a new feeling to my next shows.

No, I'm not going to talk about the American two party system.

I won't waste my microphone time that way.

I will sing of the deeper truths, the spiritual truths, that are moving us as a human race right now.

My hero Mister Dylan wrote more songs about being in love than he ever wrote about people taking note of cultural shifts.

And he never discussed the candidates or the talking points of the day, ever, as far as I can see.

But he felt the currents, he wrote songs about the shifts, he was aware of the seismic shift.

I want to have my eyes wide open right now.

"....keep your eyes wide the chance won't come again and don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin and there's no telling who that it's naming for the loser now will be later to win for the times they are a changin'..."
